Anticipated Reads of Winter 2018

Hi, readers!

Today I’m sharing some books I’m especially excited about. These are upcoming new releases that will be published this winter! I’m sharing ten books in this post and will post seasonal updates to the blog with more new releases. Who else is excited for new books?!

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones (out February 6)

Instead of settling into their marriage and new life together, Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years in prison. What happens to a marriage on the brink? How does one survive a marriage?

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton (out February 6)

Oh, wow, am I excited for this one! In this fantasy, beauty is a commodity and the Belles are in control. But Camellia wants more and more, risking everything to become the Queen’s favorite. When an unbearable choice must be made, will Camellia save herself and her sisters, or will she save the Queen, thus changing the world?

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (out now!)

When Jude’s parents were murdered, she and her sisters were kidnapped to live with the dangerous Faerie. Desperate to belong, Jude risks an alliance to save her family, her world, and a place at the High Court.

Everything Here is Beautiful by Mira T. Lee (out tomorrow!)

This novel details the lives of two sisters, Miranda and Lucia, after their mother dies and Lucia begins to make devastating choices. Ultimately, Miranda must decide whether to save her sister again and again, or opt to save herself.

Halsey Street by Naima Coster (out now!)

When Penelope leaves her artist career behind to move in with her father, she returns home to discover old secrets, love, sacrifice, and family. This book shifts between the perspectives of mother and daughter, of freedom and second chances.

I Am Thunder by Muhammad Khan (out January 25)

Fifteen-year-old Muzna struggles under her dreams of writing, bullying, and parental pressure to be a doctor. But her new friends, Arif and Jameel, take an interest in her and teach her courage and their extreme life views. Muzna will be faced with a terrible choice: betray herself or her heart?

So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo (out tomorrow!)

This nonfiction read tackles race in America head on. Oluo, an editor at The Establishment, writes frankly about racial issues including police brutality and usage of the ‘N’ word.

Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin (out February 6)

Living in a futuristic world in which everyone has biomechanical body parts, Nell Crane lives with a mechanical heart. This disconnect from her heart leads Nell to build her own companion, calling her city and father’s ethics into question.

This Will Be My Undoing by Morgan Jenkins (out January 30)

I’m so excited for this essay collection! Jenkins writes on pop culture, feminism, black history, racism, and more as she tackles what it means to be a black woman in this world. This is going to be SO GOOD.

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory (out January 30)

Alexa and Drew meet in an elevator, and she agrees to pose as his date for his ex’s wedding. And of course…sparks fly and romance ensues! Also, this romance features a black woman protagonist, which I am super here for!

That’s it for today? Which new releases are you excited to read?
