Hello! Welcome to A Word is Power. This blog launched in the fall of 2017, after some encouragement from a dear friend, in order to share my thoughts on the books I read and to recommend books to all kinds of readers. On this blog you will find my honest thoughts on the books I read and other media I consume.
I believe that everyone is a reader but may not have found the right book for them yet. I believe in equal access to education and increased literacy rates for all. Most importantly, I believe in promoting diversity in the book world. Diversity in authors, characters, settings, and stories told make all of us better readers.
I’m Olivia, the woman behind the blog. I grew up in the Midwest but now reside in sunny Colorado with my husband. I’ve loved reading since I was little and can usually be found with a book in my hand or in my handbag. I mostly read literary fiction and mysteries, but also enjoy historical fiction. My favorite authors are Sylvia Plath, Jane Austen, Amor Towles, and Margaret Atwood. I graduated from Northwestern in 2016, where I double majored in Theatre and Gender & Sexuality Studies, with a certificate in theater for young audiences. I’m a proud Hufflepuff and #NastyWoman. I enjoy musicals, crime shows, and cuddling with my cat, Lola.
Be sure to follow along on my literary adventures!
